Develop an understanding of your voice and how it relates to your body.
The purpose of this class is to build a flexible voice and prepare for a healthy, sustainable career on the mic. You will explore the whole body as an instrument of sound production and sound support. Breath-release, alignment, and relaxation will be the foundation from which you will widen vocal range, sharpen articulation, and open up to fuller expression.
You will explore sound as triggered by inner imaginative or emotional impulses, build focus, mindfulness and creative freedom, and look at sound vibration as a form of touch and how it affects the listener or receiver.
All of this work will be held in the framework of performer’s health and the pursuit of vocal release, range and stamina. Self-care will be the cornerstone of the entire practice.
You will be asked to keep a class journal and to deepen your practice and exploration outside of class. Water, a yoga mat, notebook and layered loose clothing are required. We will work in socks or bare feet.
